Easement & Super Elevation

Easement

A simple by product of the system when using semi-rigid pipe for routing is the development of Easement or a Transition Curve on sharp radii and long sweeping curves. Basically it creates a long sweeping radii before going into a tight radii

"An Easement is a portion of track that connects a curve of constant radius to a section straight track. Each easement starts with an infinite radius at the point it connects to the tangent track - the radius of a straight section of track is infinite, so the blend between the two is seamless. At the curved end of each easement, it has a radius equal to the circle it adjoins. It is also known as a Transition Curve. It changes the radius from that of the curve to that of the tangent track, and the rate of change in radius is constant along the easement. By having the easement start farther along its length, any radius between infinity and the radius of the curve can be found." *

Super Elevation

Varying height packers can be placed under the Fleximounts on curves to assist in achieving the feature Superelevation

"Superelevation – Amount by which one rail of a curved track is raised above the other. Superelevation is ‘positive’ when the outer rail is higher than the inner rail and ‘negative’ when the inner rail is higher than the outer. Also called Cant. Super elevation It allows the train to maintain a faster speed on curved sections of the track." *
